About Esther Pearl Watson
Being raised in a series of small Texas towns with a merry bunch of siblings and parents proved to be the fertile grounds of Esther Pearl Watson’s artworks. Her work features the optimistic and absurd of rural America, showing farmlands, highways, oil rigs, playgrounds and parking lots as omnipresent characters. All the while, flying saucers dot the sky as an homage to her flying saucer-building father, Gene.

Destination: Camp Wandawega
A few hours drive outside of Chicago, you will find Camp Wandawega, a unique place with a rich history. Originally built in 1925 at the height of the Prohibition Era, it was a safe haven for a cast of outlaws and criminals on the run along with interesting characters looking for liquor, prostitution and gambling. After its illicit adventures, the property was purchased by the Catholic Church and in the 1970’s it became a Latvian Church Camp for Catholic Latvians. In 2004 David and Tereasa, the current owners, purchased the grounds and they have been running Camp Wandawega since, providing a getaway from the city life and a return to other, simpler times. Back in 2020 we hosted a Jaunt Summer Camp here and now we are excited to return and enjoy the winter landscapes of Wandawega.
